About the Project
Manufacturing oral solid doses requires several protocols and produces loads of data that must be assessed in context to make the right decisions. The combination of operations you might do to get a tablet suitable for use is numerous — and making the right decisions is critical.
Using Riffyn Nexus, a global oral solid dose manufacturer was able to connect data across process steps in a matter of minutes instead of the 16 hours of error-prone effort it previously required. This allowed on-demand investigations of cause-and-effect across process steps and materials that delivered significant new process insights.
Here’s how they did it — and how you can use the same digital transformation approach to solve your own manufacturing bottlenecks.
Our customer’s goal was to equip their staff to capture large aggregate data sets and drive decisions as independent groups without the need for outside technical expertise necessary. A few critical hurdles were in the way of meeting this goal.
Several laboratory instruments fed data into a number of different folders, and each data file had its own custom script. Even worse, some data required manual processing to collate into a file that could be reported on. Still other data files resided only in ELNs and were not interpretable by data analysis tools.
The Riffyn Nexus Solution
To help our customers achieve their goal, our Science team worked with the customer to digitally transform their processes using Riffyn Nexus. In Riffyn Nexus, each unit operation along the life cycle of pill manufacture, from blending to finished product, was broken down into modules that could easily be mixed and matched and brought together for analysis.
Using this modular approach, our customer gained an interconnected system of processes that eliminated the need for Excel templates, ELNs, and secondary databases — saving time and reducing human error. They also leveraged Riffyn Nexus' ontology and documentation and execution framework to ensure consistent and reproducible data capture, even across teams.
Our customer also developed data parsing frameworks combining Riffyn Nexus and other external tools to automatically extract and contextualize data. Documenting cross-team work and joining and contextualizing data in a matter of minutes facilitated previously infeasible ad-hoc investigations into connections across materials.
Given the success achieved during this PoC, our customer has moved to implement Riffyn Nexus as a critical component for a number of manufacturing processes.
