Our customer’s goal was to equip their staff to capture large aggregate data sets and drive decisions as independent groups -- no outside technical expertise necessary. A few critical hurdles were in the way. Several laboratory instruments fed data into a number of different folders, each data file had its own custom script -- or, even worse, required manual processing to collate into a file that could be reported on -- and yet other data files resided only in ELNs and were not interpretable by tools for data analytics.
Riffyn broke down each unit operation along the life cycle of pill manufacture, from blending to finished product, into modules that could easily be mixed and matched and brought together for analysis. Using this modular approach, the Riffyn Science team built 15 processes comprising dozens of experiments for multiple oral solid dose formulation projects. And, once our customer became familiar with Riffyn Nexus, they built an additional 9 processes with support from the Riffyn team.
In only three months, our customer had gained an interconnected system of processes that eliminated the need for Excel templates, ELNs, and secondary databases -- saving time and reducing human error. They also leveraged Riffyn’s ontology and documentation and execution framework to ensure consistent and reproducible data capture -- even across teams -- and they developed data parsing frameworks through a combination of Riffyn and other external tools to automatically extract and contextualize data. Using Riffyn to document cross-team work enabled ad-hoc investigations into connections across materials by joining data and contextualizing it in a matter of minutes.
Given the success achieved during this PoC, our customer has moved to implement Riffyn as a critical component for a number of manufacturing processes.
